Polarized or UVA/UVB glasses? Anyone care to explain the difference?

Careful.

"polarized" only means that it blocks more light from one direction than it does others...for instance, for fishing, you may want glasses that block glare from below while letting you see straight ahead. for flying, you might want lenses that block from above, but let you see below with no change.

UVA and UVB specify which wavelengths of light are blocked and have nothing to do with the direction that the light is coming from...

"UV" means ultraviolet, which is not visible light to humans, but does damage our eyes.

Gross. Can't say I've seen this before. Is it a product of typing on a phone like the idiots that put the dollar sign behind the number but somehow opposite?

What I have. Haven't found any glasses better at blocking light.

UV protection is critical. If the shades protect, they will advertise that fact. If they don't advertise it, never buy them. My cat ophthalmologist friend says always look for 100% UVA/B/C protection, and I trust her judgment.

Polarized will cut glare, but won't do anything in itself about UV.

UV is important because exposure to it causes cataracts over time, and if your sunglasses don't block it completely, you'll actually be worse off by wearing them, because they allow your pupils to stay open wider in the sun.
