Which OTer asked The Advocate "why is BR trashy"?

Why is Baton Rouge so trashy? The litter and trash in the grassy areas of the interstate need to be picked up weekly. I have traveled to many cities in the United States, and I am always amazed how clean those cities are, and then I come back to Baton Rouge and see just the opposite.

Because in other cities the Prisoners pick up trash on the side of the highways and streets. This needs to be reinstituted--make these people do something worthwhile instead of sitting in a cell 24/7

I don't know, but I agree. Just got back from Florida, and driving along I-10 you see how clean and manicured the states are (even Mississippi). And then you get into hoodrat Louisiana with grass that needs to be cut, weeds growing around posts that haven't seen a weedeater in 5 years, trash, tires, roadkill from a month ago, etc. It's disgusting.

One of the NOLA posters imo. Trashy is becoming an epidemic.

One of the first things my father remarked about Phoenix after I relocated them here last week was about how much cleaner it looks compared to Baton Rouge (he has lived in only BR his entire 68 years of living btw).
And this is when we were driving around parts of PHX metro area that are not even remotely considered the "nicer" parts of the city.

Milwaukee and the drive up to Green Bay was one of the cleanest areas I have ever seen. It was sad to touchdown in BR and drive home to Scott.
What can we do? raise penalties through the roof?

South Lousiana by far is the most littered part of the country I've ever seen. I picked up a friend from Toronto at MSY yesterday and the first thing he noticed was how littered the interstate was. It's embarrassing and doesn't make a good first impression for a city who's lifeblood is tourism.

not defending BR by any means, but the area of PHX around South Mountain Park was a little trashy. Saw a fair amount of litter up around Glendale as well.
All in all though, PHX is light years better than BR on litter.

Great question. People in Baton Rouge seem to love to litter. It is embarrassing.

I don't see why people receiving government benefits and unemployment aren't required to spend at least 5-10 hours a week cleaning up trash.

The biggest culprit of the way the interstate looks is the idiot who throws shite in the back of his truck and takes off down the road. There is a mattress on I-10 right now that has been there for damn near a week. A fricking queen size mattress. Why hasn't that been picked up yet?

Yeah that area is not the nicest area at all. I like to go hiking near there...but would never in a million years live near there or even consider moving my family there.

Glendale
West valley of PHX is known to be "trashier", but some parts of Glendale aren't that horrible and relatively safe areas. I wouldn't move there, but there are some areas I'm looking at for more permanent housing for my family(we are on a really limited budget).

My dad grew up and lived most of his life in NBR, he's actually not racist. I honestly don't think he cares about the large Hispanic population in AZ.
Plus...with his darker skin tone from his medical condition....sometimes he's mistaken for Mexican.

When I did litter detail they only took us to the ghetto, they don't give a shite. Why should we?
