Jesus by a long shot. Jesus was the ultimate rebel, the ultimate anarchist, the ultimate Shift from a few chosen people to hope for everyone. Even if you dont even believe in any god at all, you have to believe that jesus was amazing.

After that, i'd say newton, as an earlier poster said.

But its jesus by a long long long shot.

Newton of course had a certain appreciation for jesus.

Eta: i see a lot of the ole ghengis khan up above. From a pure gene pool perspective, yes. From an idea perspective, no. Ideas trump genes. On the otherhand, maybe khan understood what he was doing. And his sole purpose was to propogate his ideas through genes. Thats legit.

Einstein. He believed in god, and thought jesus was just a bad arse. Einstein was right.

Eta2: i see some very good posts above contending or suggesting paul as being the most influential. I think paul was very important, but even if jesus disnt rise (which is maybe true) and paul just rolled with the story, i dont think paul created the artifice of everything jesus stood for out of whole cloth. Jesus was real in those ways that matter. Namely anarchy, paradigm shift, hope, and a big frick you to everyone who felt entitled, based on, well, nothing except blood. Hence the blood of the lamb in juxtaposition to the old testament riffs on blood.

Jesus

Einstein

Newton

Shakespeare

Probably some more, like the guy who made the first ever film product that transformed into the movie industry of today.

Whoever was leader when humans got down to about 1,000 people around 70,000 years ago.

That person brought us back from the brink.

Jesus has to be first.

But then the person responsible for determining what most people believe about Jesus is a close 2nd.

I'm going with Emperor Constantine 1, head of the first Council of Nicaea.

Everyone keeps saying jesus. There's no Jesus without abraham. Hes pretty much the inventor of religion, Jews, Christians, Muslims all recognize him as pretty much the beginning of each religion.
if not abraham, then it's Moses easily before Jesus.

Genghis Khan is the real answer. But if not him, then whoever it was that figured out how to get ketchup in those tiny ketchup packets. I cant help but fathom how shitty of a world this would be without have the ability to apply fake tomato puree on my drive through french fries at a moments notice

I'm in the Genghis Khan camp, but on a lesser importance scale, both Michael Jordan and Oprah Winfrey became incredibly influential. Muhammad Ali too.

Moses was the greatest king that ever existed without a doubt, based on the flow stream of history that his legacy has brought forth.

But Newton is the pivotal figure in the creation of our world.

if he hasn't been mentioned, it's hard to argue against ghengis khan

he both led to the deaths of an unimagineable number of people AND connected europe and asia economically. this then led to the proliferation of ideas, goods, services that led humans to take a major step....but then led to the proliferation of the bubonic plague

1 in 200 men today are direct descendants
