Going to be making a trip up to Seattle this summer and need to bring the clubs. Supposed to be playing Chambers Bay with my BIL. I've never travelled on a plane with my bag before.

What's my best bet on a travel case? What do I need to do to protect my clubs?

You don't need to ship them ... You can buy hard case for $200, but look for a used one ... If you buy a soft case, you'll need to buy a pole extension that protects your driver ... The golf store people will know what it is ... $20 item ... I'd borrow someone's if you don't travel with em that much ...
