Which generation is to blame for this country’s direction?

I see many posters take it personally when a finger is pointed at the boomer generation for driving this country into the ground. This is usually followed by attacks on younger generations for being lazy, etc. Of course this is true in some cases, but definitely not the majority.

I would like to know why the older posters on this board get defensive, instead of recognizing the greed and incompetence of our leaders that led us to this point. The corruption from our politicians that somehow always manage to make millions while in office. I think most of us know that it was not the average boomer (or any poster on this site) that put us in this situation.

For reference, I’m 30 and hoping to build a house on a few acres. Nothing crazy, just a big yard for our dogs and a little bit of space between houses. If you aren’t aware, this is unfortunately becoming an unrealistic goal in this country. Prices of homes anywhere near us have gone up 200k-300k since 2020. Once you add in the 7% interest rates these days, you can start to see why the younger generations have such a negative outlook on the future living here.

All generations. Everyone. With every year an American ages, he/she becomes more responsible.

Blame is placed on those who are worried about placing blame on others and not taking ownership of the problems in their lives.

Being satisfied with voting for the lesser of two evils has gotten us here. Can't really pin that on a single generation.

The irony is that if you ask younger generations what they'd like to see done, it usually involves more government spending - aka money printing.

Essentially more of what led us here.

The post-Cretaceous-Paleogene Extinction Event creatures should have collaborated better, once their behemoth, carnivorous thunder lizard predator overlords ate shite and died. They could have started something really good. Instead, they focused on hoarding nuts and screwing. We wouldn't be in this mess.

Boomers have destroyed the American Dream for Z-ers, many millennials, and some Gen X.

They have had an outsized piece of the sociopolitical pie, the government power pie, the generational wealth pie, and the homeownership pie.

Who do you think it is selling their $2M California homes to buy up $350K homes in Tennessee?

I blame social media and cell phones more than any generation.

I am 37 and although I am/was certainly affected, the younger generations have stood no chance given the last 10+ years and the heavy influence of social media, cell phones, and in general just the "I want/need it now" type of attitude it has created.

My generation just hit early 40's. No way you can blame us for the current state of our country in regards to issues like housing cost, tuition, manufacturing overseas, etc. Boomers did well for themselves, but left a tough road for the rest of us.

I don't spend my time trying to figure out what generation did what. All I know is we have big problems threatening the stability of our once great Republic. Let's address the issues, and the politicians who are taking us in that bad direction, and try to steer it to a more positive and preferred path.

There are a few primary factors driving the housing price inflation.

1) Short-term rentals (AirB&B)
2) The entrance of large financial firms into the real estate market
3) COVID - During the COVID period, the slowdown in new home construction caused prices to increase.
3a) Supply chain issues resulting from Covid

Maybe it's not generational and more a result of a confluence of factors.
