Which ancient civilization is the most similar to America?

America today is an "empire" run on mercantilism and a dominant navy. America is harsh on enemies and most of its citizens have a strong sense of national pride. America uses trade agreements and treaties to access markets all over the world and bring in heeps of profit. America uses political ideology like freedom and democracy for all to control many of its allies, and to defend its actions to most of the worldwide community.
I say we are most similar to Athens. They also relied on a strong navy and trade dominance to control the Mediteranean. Their citizens had strong national pride and they used political ideas like freedom and democracy to defend their actions. Luckily America does not have an equally powerful militant nation so close to it like Athens had with Sparta, at least we don't right now

Read The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. The similarities between Rome in its decline and modern-day U.S.A. are uncanny.

Two executives, bicameral legislature, civil and criminal courts, appellate systems, vetoes, trial by jury, presumption of innocence in court, melting pot, multilingual, multi-cultural, multiple religions, citizen-soldiers, professional athletes, international trade, dominant military power of the age, relatively literate population, welfare system for the poor, continuous war in foreign lands, rose up against foreign power to establish nation, slavery (at one time in the U.S., of course), immigration problems, massive deficit spending... the list goes on and on...
It can be argued that the United States government at its founding was heavily influenced by the structure of the Roman Republic. It's almost a carbon copy.
Definitely Rome.
