I will be in town with some friends in a few weeks and we would like to play a round. I haven't played in Baton Rouge since at LSU in the early 2000's. Looking for a nice course but it doesn't have to be the most expensive course in town. Thanks.

At a golf course would probably be your best bet.

It's a little outside of Baton Rouge, but I'm a fan of Cater Plantation in Albany (I think) and The Island in Plaquemine.

The Island looks nice. Any of the BREC courses in town worth playing?

Santa Maria and Beaver Creek are nice BREC courses worth playing. Don't bother with the others.

Santa Maria will be crowded. Call early in the week for a tee time. Beaver will be less crowded but about a 20-25 minute trip out to Zachary.

Santa Maria is only decent option without driving 30 plus minutes to Copper or Beaver Creek.

Greens at Beaver are terrible. The island or greystone for close. Carter if you don't mind a 40 minute drive. Bluffs would be another option in that time frame.

Copper Mill is closer and in better shape. Santa Maria will be easy to get on with weeks to plan. The Island is a great choice too.
