When you buy something new, how reluctant are you to throw away the box?

For electronics and the like, do you keep them for a long time, or just long enough to check if it works properly?

Maybe it's because I order online a lot and worry about having to return something, but I always hold on to the box for a little while

I keep boxes on electronics for a couple weeks minimum.

I keep a handful longer than that if they are a good size/shape for boxing gifts down the line.

I think I still have the box form when I get an xbox 360 almost 10 years ago

That is the exception, not the rule though.

I usually throw it away. I just don't like keeping stuff around that I don't use. I also can't remember the last time I brought something back.

I only intend to keep it until it is outside the return policy. But, then I think about keeping it in case I have to move it.

Lately, I just throw them away after I test the item (electronics and appliances, mainly.)

My life is cluttered enough as it is - I'm slowly breaking this cluttering habit.

The other day I threw out a box for a pair of boots that I bought about 4 years ago

The boots are beat to hell, yet I still had the box

I keep the small ones on the top shelf in my closet but usually throw the big ones out. Off the top of my head I can think of cell phone, tablet and fishing reel boxes. For big electronics I usually throw them out but feel anxious about doing so.

This is an exception, though. If you keep boxes for shoes, you can stack a shite ton in the bottom of a closet - Mrs. Midnight does this.

Nothing wrong with that habit.

i always keep the box for electronics. Not sure if it's the case any more but, they used to always want you to used the original box when sending something in for warranty work. I guess i just never got away from that idea.

I save the box for every piece of electronics until the warranty period is over. I keep the box for any largish TV until I'm upgrading it and giving it away.

I keep my boxes for electronics (xbox, router, roku, modem ect). I haven't had to use any so probably not worth it.

Same here. Put it away. Forget about it. Open closet a few months later. Toss it.
My gf will NOT throw them away. She broke her camera at the LSU/Oregon game in 2011. Kept the box with broken camera for a solid year after I bought her a new one. SMH
