When will our water system operate more like the Energy Market?

It amazes me that the infrastructure doesn't exist for our water system to operate more like the electric grid. Obviously this would solve drought issues, but also provide more of an open market for consumers.

How far away are we from this?

And just so you know, our electric grid is shitty and archaic.

Hint: look to the west, the blue stuff. that's what you're looking for. do you guys even reverse osmosis?

you know how big the electric wire needs to be to carry electricity across a city....you know big a water pipe would need to be in order to do the same thing? You know how much the cost difference between the two is? This is a stupid question, not sure why I responded
