Some of us are proud of our family heritage and spend time restoring photos from as far back as the 1870s that have faded or suffered damage of some sort. It's kinda neat to restore an old photo of your great grandfather standing at the wheel in the pilot house of his stern wheeler with Mark Twain standing next to him. (And that's a restoration, not an alteration.)
It's a tad bit more wholesome and fulfilling than scouring porn sites in your spare time.
