When did baseball tournaments start handing out rings instead of trophies?

I just found this out today. When the hell did this crap start?

I hope my kid's team (in 7 years or so) never wins a tournament. I'd hate to have to make him throw away a "championship" ring...

Rings are cheaper. Tournaments are money makers.

When the parents started taking it more serious than the kids.

Nothing like seeing a bunch of 7 year olds on facebook with their championship rings. Terrible. And just as terrible are the parents who post that shite.

Trophies are phallic symbols of male dominance and oppress women, transgenders, genderqueers, and feminists.

Rings are more appropriate, but they are still offensive to people born without digits.

Why would you make him throw it away? Crazy fricking loon. You're probably an anti vaccer?

I'm not seriously going to make him throw it away. He's not even three. Turn on your sarcasm meter.

Cause I got a really big team. And they need some really big rings. They need some really nice things.

Good call. How much would Rick take? $10?

My kid got a participation trophy Saturday and has been thrilled ever since. Maybe there's something to this I've certainly argued against it

what are costs of said rings? Anything over $15 is ridiculous.

There are nice ones and not so nice ones apparently. Even 2nd place teams are getting them.

He would have to bring in his tournament ring expert.

He's not. It's like he cares about the participation trophy and doesn't care about ones he earned. Oh well as long as it's fun for him I don't care.

Once you get enough rings, you melt them down and have a trophy made from the rings. At least that's how the better little leagues roll.
