You and me are on the same page. I hit the gym, would get a sixer of something local, then hang out in the room and call home. But once I saw the tells, I couldn't *unsee* them. Stuff that I was otherwise oblivious to, then it all comes into focus, as it were.

I've never strayed, or had any desire to do so. But is there ample opportunity? Yeah, there is. Hit up any downtown hotel bar or Embassy Suites during happy hour. If you want it, you can get it. And most of those women are married.

To answer your question, women in the long term are on average worse off financially after a divorce…simply because the whole family is. You’re taking the “income pie” (regardless of who is earning what, or who is paying who alimony) and spreading it over two households now instead of one.

You mentioned woman primarily get custody. That’s great for them but it’s not costless. Being a single parent with primary custody means your employment/educational opportunities are more limited, which makes the woman even worse off financially in the long term than had they stayed together.

Divorced, never re-married women (as a demographic) have one of the highest likelihoods of ending up in poverty after retirement (opposite is true for married women). They also have high levels of reported depression and loneliness after divorce. Let’s face it…divorced women aren’t exactly highly sought after in the dating market.

These are averages obviously and yes I’m aware that some women take their husbands to the cleaners for a variety of reasons. But as a group, the data is clear that they are worse off. That is their consequence.

Men have other issues, mainly false accusations, judicial bias and abuse, family estrangement, loss of reputation, loss of status, alcoholism, drug abuse and suicide. Suicide alone is astounding. Nine men kill themselves for every woman after a divorce. The strange thing is that the majority of them are not depressed, it's just that they feel their purpose in life was obliterated. They kill themselves because they feel like they have nothing valuable to give, which is everything for a family men. Particularly since 80+ percentage of divorces are filed by the women. Men feel discarded and useless, especially if the ex wife has weaponized the children against them in the modern feminist way, so they take themselves out.

Divorce sucks for men. Divorce sucks for women. Divorce sucks for kids.

All of those things are true. I wrote that post as a reply to a guy who seems to think that divorce simply sucks for men and is of no consequence for women, which is insane.
