I sure hope you just have no idea what you're talking about and you didn't actually take a liter of sterile water IV.

Honestly, the best thing I ever did for hangovers was to quit drinking more than a few beers and switched to vodka/water pretty much exclusively when I go out all night. I get a little more hammered, but I stay hydrated and wake up feeling great most of the time.

Vodka and soda and drinking water seems to keep me from feeling like death the next morning.

Taking a shite works for me.

I drink like 4-5x a week and I simply don't get hungover in the first place.
I'm sure tolerance has some role to play (alcoholics don't get hangovers is a thing) but it's so simple to me. I drink a ton of water before going to bed.

I am in my mid 40's now. My cure is to not drink in the first place. 2 days to recover just isn't worth it.

If you know you're going to drink a lot ahead of time, this article has some interesting strategies:
LINK
Summary:
1) choose alcoholic drinks w/less toxins (read article for more info)
2) hydrate (drink water) before, during & after
3) block conversion of alcohol to aldehyde by taking vitamin c... article also plugs their own product here.
4) additional supplements for liver detox: lipoceutical glutathione, vitamin B1 and/or alpha lipoic acid and/or NAC
5) activated charcoal.
The only part of this I've personally tested is a combo of time released vitamin C, B complex & NAC (as suggested in the comments section by Charles Kendrick (it's the 6th comment)). I get bad hangovers and this combo works better than anything else I've tried in terms of waking up not in pain.
If the evening happens too spontaneously to plan ahead, best bet is to drink as much water as you can during the night and go to bed... & take 600-800 mg ibuprofen before sleep. When you wake up take another 600-800 mg ibuprofen with a glass of water.
If you're really bad off, pour 1/2 a shot to a shot of vodka, gin, etc. and water it down a little. Drink it in a few sips. If you can, lay back down for a nap, but this will take the edge off regardless. You don't have to "start drinking" again, but if you do take a couple sips in this fashion (a small shot's worth), you'll feel much better if you have to be productive that morning.
eta: I take the time released B/C/NAC stack in the evening before drinking, again before sleep & in the morning.

Water before bed and water/Gatorade when I get up. Usually keeps me from being hungover.

12 oz of water after every 3 beers. Maybe after every 2 strong drinks. Seems like a hassle but you'll be glad you did.

Wake up around 7 am. Pound a big breakfast and water then nap for a few hours. Works every time
