Do they wear down too quickly, or are they pretty reliable as a used item?

i'd be leery buying a used jet ski that was exclusively used in salt water.

Like a jet ski that you stand up on and not a seadoo or waverunner? I never see those anymore

I've known 2 people who bought used jet skis and both were always having to have some kind of work done.

I wouldn't buy one unless I personally knew the seller.

triple whatever you paying for them to know how much you will spend on getting them fixed every time you want to use it.

The more excited you are to spend the day on one, the more likely it is to break down as soon as you put it in the water. It's science

PWCs spend most of their life idling or at WOT. Smart or not I have always avoided used ones.

Jet Ski = Kawasaki
Waverunner = Yamaha
Seadoo = Bombardier

Like anything else... Get it checked by a mechanic. Also, waverunners and boats break from non-use. You want something that isn’t dogged but def used regularly. Unless it’s still in warranty then dgaf.

Girlfriend's bro has 2 for sale. Not sure of the year. One 3 seater wave runner, and 1 Sea Doo Bombardier. He's a mechanic guy, so he's kept them up and replaced parts. Took them to the lake yesterday, and they did well. I anticipate having to get work done, but he's selling the 2 and their trailer for $3200.
Appreciate all of the feedback.

its exactly like buying a used motorcycle or a used outboard

if the guy took care of it and didnt abuse it, did regular maint as required, it could be a great deal

but you have no way of knowing its history even if buying it from the guy next door

best guess you can make is that appearance "could" say a lot about condition, but then i have seen lots of guys keep their shite pretty and wash and wax it every week, but they never once change the oil or do any maint.

My parents had 2 Seadoo RXP's. I think they were 08 or 09 models (this was back in 12ish). Other than a drive cable issue, they were bullet proof. We beat the snot out of those things every weekend for a few years on the lake. in a salty environment. Now i will say, that cable was a complete pain in the arse and we ended up paying someone to do it. But otherwise they were fine and the performance was awesome.

Rent it if you can. I looked at some recently and decided against owning them at all. I think jet skis have the highest cost of ownership of all of the outdoor power sports equipment and require the most maintenance. If you do get one, the non-supercharged Yamaha waverunners are regarded as the most reliable.

They’re durable af if you don’t hang have morons flipping them and getting water loaded in the engine compartment. If you just want to cruise and go fast they’re awesome but I learned the hard way, trying to do circles and throw people off as a youngster will mean it’s going to the shop
