What's the Story Behind the LSU Lakes?

I always heard that the landowner, a rich alumnus and/or donor of the school, had the land blasted to make lakes because Southern University was beginning to encroach upon the campus of LSU.

I was just curious the guy's name.

Story I heard was that Huey p long didn't want southern anywhere near LSU so he surrounded it with lakes

Huey created public works projects to funnel money to his allies. The old money hated him and even then, you needed rich friends.

That's funny, I heard Southern was built on the Bluffs because the blacks didn't want LSU encroaching on them. You know, taking the high ground.
