So my 8 week old has been keeping me up and I have been contemplating starting him on some rice cereal. Wife is worried about allergies. Dude is close to 15 lbs and is in 6 months clothing. Any one experience with getting them to sleep.

Cereal? Tell your wife not to worry, he will be fine! If he does be some crazy chance have an allergy you will know right away.

6 weeks bro. Go with the beach nut. It doesn't have milk in it in case of dairy allergies

Yeah dude was large and in charge. I was 7.6 and wife was 6.8. Homeboy was 9.13. He is currently taking 5 oz every two and half hours. It's two oz of formula and three oz of boob milk. Wife is basically eating veggies and oat meal only. Small proteins here there.

Just don't over think things, you guys will be fine and be great parents. Just have him try new things and based on his reaction you can decide if you want to add it into the routine. You aren't going to break him ya know!

You have to start spacing out the feedings if you want him to sleep at night. Get him to feeding every four hours. Not feeding him less, just more fewer times. So, instead of 5 oz every t2.5 hours, maybe, 8 oz, every 4 hours. Once you get to feeding every four hours, the night time takes care of itself.

Lookup the book 12 weeks to 12 hrs of sleep. Your baby fits the criteria to start that process.

Yea, 8 oz is probably too much to start out. Maybe start with 6 oz, and if he still seems hungry give another ounce. You'll know when he is done. One tricky thing with your situation is he is still breastfeeding.

Also, the feeding routine in that book is what is useful, which you can probably find a summary of online. The goal is to increase daytime feedings to four times during the day, four hours apart. And if needed, wean night time feedings, by giving less each time during the night.

Good luck.

My youngest was about 2 months when we started giving him rice cereal. His doctor told us to try it because he wasn't getting full on just formula.

Be careful. Rice cereal too young and when given in bottle (instead of spoon fed) can not only lead to allergies, but also asthma later in life, respiratory problems and constipation. It also may not help with the sleeping through the night situation you are trying to resolve.

My youngest is a whale but I was only making matters worse by giving in and doing what I thought she wanted and giving her a bottle in the middle of the night for so long. Once I put my foot down and stopped, she slept through the night after 2 nights. It was an easy transition

However, 2 months old is still very young. It is quite normal they are not sleeping all night yet. I wouldn't try to ween off night time feedings until about 4 months or so.

Have a 5 month old. Started giving him oatmeal at night at 4 weeks. Slept all night. He's 15lbs now. Was born 8.12.
