Yeah but we can't look at your swing.
seeing is only a quarter of the battle. understanding a fundamental of a swing is much easier to diagnose; rather than say...too long of a backswing.

that will look good on a computer screen. practical application is a whole different world

Have you ever hit this?
This looks like it will get you on the right track.
DST golf makes one that is supposedly just as good.
Not for your specific issue, but the Swing Extender is fantastic.

I've had somewhat good results with aiming for a point about 2-3 inches in front of the ball. I naturally try to marry up club and swing like baseball, it's hard to fight.

you realize that is Vijay Singh right?

Yes, I know that is Vijay. Just because it's effective doesn't mean it isn't ugly.

For me, impact issues have been a result of tempo more than anything.
The best drill I have ever used, and pretty much the go to when I'm having a problem is the 2-ball takeaway tempo drill.
At address place a 2nd ball about 1 yd directly behind the tee. Upon takeaway if you don't knock the second ball out of the way start over. This drill slows me down so much, corrects early wrist play, and smooths out tempo.

I see what your saying.
He is tall so his hitch is different than the traditional swing.
Charles Barkley should take notes

first things first...work off of a tee with a low iron (pref. 8 or 9)
second - remember anything you do before impact does not mean you will hit the ball with forward face
lean (correct impact position)
third - while learning to impact the ball correctly; if your backswing passes parallel, you are swinging with too much force!!!!
fourth - exaggerate the follow through with your hands in front of the club face
I'm looking for a good video to show the drill I'm talking about.
Nice.
This is all I'm really going to work on going forward. Tired of the inconsistency. If I can get close to low handicap impact I'm on the right track.
DJ's hands WAY ahead of the ball at impact.
I need to see myself on video though to see where my hands actually are right now. I tried filming on my phone but could not slow it down enough. May go to Golftec just to see a super slow motion video.
I bet 95% of golfers can't get their hands ahead of the ball at impact.
Post the video baw.

I worked with James Leitz a few years ago and he PREACHES impact position. So much so that he paid little attention to my stance, take away, follow through, etc. unless he felt it would affect my impact position. He showed me many swings--perfect (Scott) and ugly (Furyk)--and they all had the same impact position.
I still use the drill he taught me during those sessions before (and throughout) every practice session and round.
Take an old club, slice the bottom of the grip, insert a training stick and leave 1/2 exposed (use a tee if needed to hold the stick in place). Take your normal grip, set up to the ball with the stick outside your leading hip (left hip for RH swing), and begin taking 1/2 swings. The stick will not allow you to "cast" your hands (the stick hits your hip) and holding the stick outside of your hip forces you into the proper impact position.
After taking several swings with the stick, I'll grab a low iron and take the 1/2-3/4 "punch" swings like another poster suggested while focusing on the divot and resulting low, piercing, ball flight. Then go back to the stick club. Then back to the low iron. Rinse and repeat. You can also do this in your house on a rug or carpet.
This one drill has made the biggest difference in my game--whether I'm regularly playing or not.

I'm going to tell you this right away. you will hit a few not so great shots doing any drills trying to gain shaft lean. don't think too much of it, they normally don't stick around

Go to your local batting cage and put in work.

This is not the thread I thought it would be.

This. Has helped my ball striking immensely.

Maybe it's time for a new prescription for those glasses you need.

So does this tour striker get rid of a slice also?
