You should live in:

Texas

Funny, since it's full of hot, red-blooded Americans, but Texas bills itself as 'a whole 'nother country'. If you like wide open spaces, big steak dinners and friendly people, it's likely that the Lone Star State is just the right country for you.

Vermont. Must have been the fall foliage answer.

I got Vermont without giving a fall foliage answer. And I said I liked a hot climate, constant sun, no snow.

Do not want Vermont.

I miss topography. Houston is flat, nothingness. I have not found a good place to go outside near Houston within an easy drive. Lake Conroe and Lake Livingston are pretty long drives and Galveston is a dump. I hate that place. There are no hills here and it's fricking November 16 and 85 miserable fricking degrees.

Austin is better in terms of topography, but then I'd have to live in Austin along with 50 million expatriated Californians and all the nonsense that comes with nearly every part of that city gentrifying. If I could make a living in hill country, I wouldn't mind living in Texas, but if I'm going to move to hill country, frick it I'm moving to Boise or the Fayetteville area or Asheville or Richmond or really anywhere but BFE Texas.

And I'm not living in San Antonio. May as well be North Mexico.

I got texas. Most things I picked could be had in any state in the south. So I guess you just get texas if you like it hot, like steak and like America.

Texas (lived there from '68-'75)

Thought the answer was going to be Florida.

I agree with everything you said. We live in Coppell, a very nice suburb just north of DFW airport. Obviously the Dallas area has it's pluses and minuses, too. Great area for making money and variety of things to do. Lots of lakes around DFW, with Texoma being my favorite...86,000 sq acres...huge. Lots of fun. Music scene is great and lots of pro sports...Rangers, Cowboys, Stars and Mavericks. I could go on but you get the point.

However, with that said, it's about the money here. People treat people differently here. It's go-go-go constantly...which I personally hate. There's great places to eat, but nothing compares to our Cajun food. I am able to get Gambino's poboy bread and Savoie's products locally which is a huge plus.

Then there's the schools, which is the reason we haven't moved back yet. We live in one of the best school districts in America and we have a 15 year old. There's no way we're pulling her out at this point to put her in a Louisiana school system. The offerings for academics are night and day between Louisiana and Texas. Once she's done though, all bets are off....we're Louisiana bound at that point!
