My son is 9 and swings a Demarini Voodoo 29/16
I couldn't justify spending. $279 on the Easton Mako (bright orange bat pictured above) for a 9 yr old. A bat is not going to make a huge difference.

If you spend more than $50 at that age you are an idiot

The only thing that matters at that age is swinging mechanics and fundamentals.

I see too many 9 year olds these days with $100+ bats who have no idea how to swing a bat. They try to uppercut the ball or muscle it out from underneath.

Teach them proper swinging technique: bat speed by bringing your hands to the ball, not strength, muscle or power is the way to hit a ball.

How long has it been since you bought a bat?

I just bought one and couldn't really find any for $50.

10+ years but still I am sure you can find one on eBay or Craigslist for under $50

My point is a good bat is meaningless at that age for two reasons, one he will outgrow it in a year or 2 and two the only thing that matters is swinging technique at that age

While I agree with you, in my experience the cheaper bats have a tendency to dent and crack pretty easy. I have bought a few for my teams to practice with.
