When did nerdiness become "cool"?

This isn't fair to those of us who were nerds before it was cool.

Scruffy does not appreciate the use of our term and finds it highly prejudicial and racist.

I went to see The Grizzlies last night. It was Star Wars night.

There were lots of dudes 20-50 years old running around that have no hope of ever getting laid.

a) i posted on here a while back that it was the equivalent of calling yourself smart and interesting.

b) apparently, liking a mainstream blockbuster film qualifies one as a nerd these days.

c) it ain't new, but def seems said film and similar not-really-nerdy qualifiers have propagated the phenomenon.
