I was a student 06-11. Here is how I feel like it went down.
2007 USC game, the Oweo chant "you suck" became "you suck cocks." This made sense for this one game, but the you suck cocks chant then became the norm.
IIRC, this was banned by the end of the season, leaving students with a burning desire to spew vulgarity, yet no organized means to do so.
Over the course of 2008, Oweo was brought back and banned again as the you suck cocks chants continued. Meanwhile, Neck was coming into its own. I think it began in 2007 as I don't remember them playing it in 06. At first, there was no words chanted to Neck, just the hand motion.
Over the course of 08-09, our majority white student section came to find out that Neck was actually based off a real song, with real words. "Talking out the side of your neck" was chanted for about a season.. until that burning desire for vulgarity took over and STTDB became a staple in 2010. I don't remember when it specifically happened, but I feel like this was the general timeline.

It's trashy as hell. Denying that doesn't change it.
It's tacky and not clever or witty in the least.
Are people really stupid enough to think the other teams are affected by it?
There are several "Shake your head" things about LSU fans, STTDB is probably at or near the top of the list.

What does this have to do with anything?
Eta: if you are suggesting that white people don't know the original Neck you are wrong. It is a generational thing, not a racial thing.

Maybe it's generational.. but I recall going on a YouTube binge several years ago and found out that a lot of HBCU bands have been playing Neck long before LSU began in 2007.

Pretty good summary. The first time I remember the chant fully taking over to where pretty much the whole student section was chanting it was for Tennessee in 2010. I can't remember if I'd heard it being chanted at other games before that, but if I did, it was just a few people, not loud enough to be a big deal. So I think the ending of the Tennessee game is really what cemented as a full on chant that most of the student section participates in.

Oweo has disappeared again. They were playing at the beginning of the season. I don't recall the vulgarities being too bad with the band playing it in triple time.

I don't have any facts to back this up but I heard that southern's band/fans had been doing it for a while before LSU

So when will the groundswell of thought on these come to not offend the gay/female students?
It's obviously meant to be an insult and not offending these groups is something college students now support... so why continue the chant?

first time i remember hearing the chants were in 2011. i know for the wvu and ole miss games in 2010 they played neck and it was the regular lyrics chanted
