What is the advantage of a "plan" on Verizon?

You can buy a Droid at Walmart and pay $45 per month for a phone that is on the Verizon system, and it has unlimited everything including data.

My son has three phones on a Verizon 12mb plan, and pays $300 per month. Why?

You can also get an Iphone at Walmart that will work with the $45 plan.

Am I missing something (I assume I am)?

In an emergency situation like a hurricane people with actual Verizon phones may get slightly better service because Verizon's network will prioritize its own traffic over third party carriers.

Other than that, no advantage, really. Now that you have to pay full price for the phone with Verizon too why bother (at least, if you can afford to pay for the phone(s) up front).

the $45 a month isn't really unlimited. After 5GB, they throttle it down to dialup speed. 5GB is way more than enough for most people, and it's still a better deal than the regular Verizon/ATT plans, but I just wanted to clarify that.

I thought the Walmart plans didn't use LTE even for the first 5 GB?

Maybe the ATT plans do

Verizon has best reception. Plus iPhones are overrated.

I can never tell if people mean the Motorola Droid or if they are just retarded.

I have a Droid Turbo and it's a nice phone. The big battery is my favorite feature.

For comparison:
iPhone 6/6S Plus: 2915/2750 mAh
Droid Turbo: 3900 mAh

I use a prepaid Verizon phone, unlimited calling for $1.99 each day, that is only if I make or answer a call. Some days I don't use it, so it doesn't cost anything for that day.
I also use a prepaid verizon 4G mobile broadband for my laptop, tablet etc. That cost me 90 bucks for 10gbs, that is usually enough for a month for me.
