Yep, you could subscribe to a thread and you'd get email notifications whenever a new post was added to the thread. I remember accidentally hitting the "subscribe" button once and had my email flooded with notifications when the thread went several pages.

Up votes/down votes would kind of suck, but I'd love notifications for replies. I feel like it's keep threads alive longer. Sometimes I notice people replied to my post after the thread is no longer relevant.
