In the finest English traditions, I pulled out my Barbour jackets today to make sure they don't need a waxing before the winter really kicks off. When it comes to balmy wet winters like the ones we have here in Europe, wax-cotton Barbour is hard to beat. In addition to practicality, they exemplify the most classic style.

The Bedale is the go-to, but the half-length Northumbria is hard to beat for the wettest of days.

What does the OT think about Barbour jackets for wear this winter?

The same way I feel about every other jacket I have that's been around for decades and everyone and their brother owns and wears

It's a jacket

I like them. I don't have one, but I've been looking into them lately.

Mine has a big hole in the sleeve. I meant to send it off and get it fixed before it turned cold, but forgot

I own one. Perfect for the Pacific NW.

I also have a beautiful Mackintosh trench coat that is excellent.

Beaufort with the game pocket is key for game days. You can fit about 8 beers in it.

I like them in theory, but in real life I only see older men wearing them.

I have a Bedale and a moleskin Liddesdale, with the Liddesdale getting most of the wear. It's the jacket I leave by the backdoor for when I need to throw on a jacket real quick.

I think Schoffel makes a better quality jacket with modern, breathable fabric that still has the "English shooting jacket look." I absolutely love this jacket:

Then, in the distance, I heard the bulls. I began running as fast as I could. Fortunately, I was wearing my Italian cap toe oxfords. Sophisticated yet different; nothing to make a huge fuss about. Rich dark brown calfskin leather. Matching leather vent. Men's whole and half sizes 7 through 13. Price: $135.00.

I own a Barbour jacket. I also own a Filson jacket and one by Burberry. They're all about the same.
