40% of Louisiana's state budget is funded by Federal Aid which is #2 nationally (Mississippi is #1 in federal aid)

Of the 50 states... LA has the 45th highest state and local tax burden.
We have a lot of wasted money but we are not taxed "a ton"
A big problem is that most of the money collected by the state gets sent to local entities such as schools and it's pissed away at that local level.

Louisiana's property taxes are pretty low compared to other states, while its sales taxes are generally higher than other states. State income tax is similar to other states (at lease for those states that charge an income tax). Now, how it's being spent.... I live in another state that charges more for property taxes, and there are many visible examples of how the money is spent (road improvements, schools, etc.) - LA, not so much. Demand more out of LA's politicians.
