Folks also tend to forget that Germany also defeated Russia in WWI. The treaty of Brest-Litovsk saw huge swaths of Russian territory signed over to Germany. Only when Germany lost in the west did the Germans give that land back.

If we wanted to, we could put Afghanistan away for a long, long time. So don't try and say that it's a bad idea on our part. It's a bad idea that we let politics dictate how our men serving the country fight. That's the mistake right there. Not letting our troops do what they're trained and paid for to do. Which is beat the frick out of our enemies.
