I have a cousin from Pennsylvania that is interviewing for a job there and was asking me about it. I am not familiar with the Lake Charles area. Can ya'll tell me a little about it. Crime, good places to live or anything. TIA

How old is this person?

They probably will not want to live in Westlake, it is dreadful. Definitely live in Lake Charles, hell even Sulphur. The I-10 bridge traffic can be awful sometimes, especially at 5 so have them consider that. As for living in LC, look in downtown area (but south of Broad St/west of Enterprise Blvd) or south LC. Good general rule is to stay west of kirkman st

The entire Lake Charles metro is a fairly small city (sort of like Shreveport or Beaumont) that is growing because of all of the new engineering and plants out there.

It's not a bad region to live. It doesn't have nicer amenities that Baton Rouge or New Orleans have, but Houston is only a few hours away and it is a pretty affordable area. It's also probably going to be growing a lot over the next couple of decades.

If your cousin is from a smaller town in PA like Altoona, Wilkes-Barre, Greensburg, or Harrisburg , he'll probably like the Lake Charles area especially in winter. If he's from a posh Philly suburb he may feel a bit out of place.

Not sure what he will be making but also look into the Greywood Area, really nice community with a golf course, pool, tennis courts and beautiful homes. This is one of the nicer, more expensive areas

Sulhpur or south Lake Charles is where he would want to be with young kids.

Despite what many people say there is actually plenty of stuff to do around town. Prien Lake Park is one of the nicer parks I've ever been to, and if he likes to boat, fish, or gamble, he has nothing to worry about.

ETA: tell him to look in the Moss Bluff area as well. Hopefully he can find a home thats not in a flood zone

South part of Lake Charles is probably where I would look personally.

A couple of posters live in Moss Bluff that may be able to be specific on neighborhoods if he's trying to find a rental in that area.

He is just having his first interview so was just curious about the area. But these areas will give him a starting point to look into when they have to decide if this is where they will want to move.

Where in PA?

With Sasol and all of the other megaprojects in the area, Lake Charles is certainly growing quickly especially by Pennsylvania standards.

Regardless of all these glowing posts, it will not be what he is remotely hoping for. Sorry

I wish him the best of luck. You should tell him that he can play golf year round if he wants. We'll break the news about the hurricane threat on the coast and the rainy, hot summers to him later.

I grew up in SoLa and now live in the Pittsburgh area. The folks I know from the Lake Charles area are good, down to earth people. Lots of LSU fans in the area. I would consider moving there if I had a good job lined up. As others have pointed out, it's a smaller city but it's definitely growing.

Always nice to see good people move to Louisiana.
