My ear canals are very narrow, and I have to go to the ENT every 6 months to get my ears vacuumed out. One of the best feelings afterwards
I haven't had problems with this lately but I remember having this done a few times and getting in my truck and thinking damn this radio is loud

I've had problems with this since about my late 30s. An ENT told me to use a drop of olive oil in each ear about once per week and rinse in the shower. Seems to work well.
And what does this do? I've done the HP drops and that seems to do something as it seems like stuff gets dislodged, but don't know what ear wax build up really causes.
On a side note....as a kid when we would get water in our ears from the pool or ocean, and it just wouldn't come out after jumping up and down, my dad would lay us on the side like in the video, take a newspaper page and funnel it up, then he would light up around the top edge, and the water would just go "vooosh" right out. Bingo o bang o no more water in the ears. Was a fun "trick that worked" as a kid.

I was in a car wreck a decade or so ago and got an MRI and something showed up. They dug into my ear and pulled a huge packed piece of ear wax out. Genuinely felt like it was in the middle of my skull. Was one of the most intense feelings of relief I’ve felt in my entire life when it was removed.
I have really severe wax build up and have had to do a variety of things to remove. When it’s soft, it’s easier to get out and feels amazing to come out. Worst smell in the world though.
If it’s hardened… holy hell the pain.
I started not being able to hear while on a work trip. No pain, but one ear just couldn’t get much.
When I got back it was late on July 3 and I just went in to an urgent care and one of my best friends happened to be the DR on call. Didn’t want to mess with an ER and ear doctor wouldn’t be open for another 3 days because of the holiday. 2 hours of digging around in there trying to get it out and the wax that came out was rock hard and about the size of a dime. My ear hole is not that size.
I got back home about 9 and didn’t fall asleep till 4 in the morning from the pain.

I think it just softens it up so that it doesn't get hard. Wash ears out in the shower and I guess it keeps it from building up in there. I haven't had to see an ENT in a few years now.
