I don't see how anyone can run with a heel strike in them. Theres no hiding it when you don't keep proper form.

Like I said, I love mine, bout to buy a new pair.

Vibram 5Fs have crippled more people than Polio.

it's funny

do these same doctors not treat patients that run in NB Minimus? How about Merrell Trail Gloves? these are the exact same type of shoes, just no individual toes

What's wrong with NB Minimus? I love those shoes. I plan to buy more here shortly.

ETA: I don't love them for any perceived advantage or running style. I just like how thin and lightweight they are. I have big feet and they make my feet look not so clownlike.

This thread is humorous.

This is good insight to behavior on other subjects. "I knew I was right!"

Most doctors are all about making money. By making them not wear these shoes, it will force them to wear normal shoes. From there they will send them to their buddy who will custom fit orthotics into their shoe. It will cost way more money in the long run bc the orthotics wear. So in the end both the physician and his buddy profit. Repear doctor visits and repeat orthotics made and the end result will be the same. They will still have issues!

I don't own a pair of Vibrams even though I have always wanted some. I do have a few pair of NB Minimus though.

I feel the same way about my 5F. I don't wear shoes during the summer very often. I wear these instead, rather than flip flops. To each his own.

I know three foot and ankle Orthopaedic specialists in BR alone that will refuse to treat you if you refuse to not wear them after your initial visit/treatment. You're literally destroying your feet and more by wearing them while running.

Doesn't matter. People will continue to believe advertisements and sales pitches without any scientific data to back them up.

Bingo and not everyone have perfectly arched feet.

So human beings have run for thousands of years on bare feet and 60 years in running shoes, and doctors say people are destroying their feet by running in shoes that are basically bare feet with soles on the bottom?

Mmmkay.

This sounds to me like going backwards. OK so we figured out how to make running shoes. Now, let's ditch them and go back to running barefoot.

Believe it or not, many people need arch support.

What about just old regular gloves. Can you sue for wearing those? Should I have worn mittens?

My point was, human beings are built to run a certain way. If you've never tried it, take your shoes off and run around your back yard. Chances are, your foot strike is going to be different than it is with your tennis shoes on.

All Vibrams/minimalist shoes do is promote you to run the way your body is designed to. Its not some magical cure all. Chances are if you've never used them before, it's going to feel different. I started back to running this year on Jan 1 and did my first 10K at the CCC. I've run off and on in my 5F, but worked them in slowly. I ran once a week in them for a few weeks, then upped it gradually to wearing them every day. Instead of pain in my shins, as I typically get when starting back running, I had tightness in my calves and quads, similar to cycling. Over time, it felt better and more natural.

I switched to Brooks Pure Drifts about 3 weeks before the CCC, as the pair of 5F I had are pretty worn out and the soles are pretty thin, and the distance was beating my feet up. Pure Drifts are pretty minimal drop shoes with a light cushion, and they've served me well.

I've had no ill effects from running in my 5F.
