I'm sure prescription drug abuse has a lot to do with it. It seems like every young person my company has ever hired has abused Adderall, benzos, or some type of pain killer.

I snark about Millenials because it is fun but all the ones I know and work with are doing A-OK.

Well let's make damn sure we don't give them any sex education to teach them about birth control, or any contraceptives in case they learn about it on their own, and for the sake of all that is holy NEVER let them have an abortion if they accidentally get pregnant.

When did I suggest that?

We should be sterilizing people on the dole as a condition of being taken care of.

Anything to limit the population of people dependent on others for their survival.

Why is it that society becomes more suicidal and depressed when life is at it's easiest?

because working, improving, and mastery are the keys to happiness (there is research on this now)

that requires conflict, struggle, and perseverance. that's why mastery is so rewarding in the end

when we have it easy, we become lazy, soft, and give up easily and move on. in an abundant society, literally anything is possible for its population, because we don't have to devote our resources to fulfilling our basic necessities. this allows the ability for leisure, education, personal development, moral development, etc. when we are taught that competition doesn't matter, winning doesn't matter, and quitting is just as valuable as continuing, we never actually master anything. instead of being this liberating exercise where we're not bound to the societal demands of success, it's a trap of frustration. we never reach mastery. we never overcome struggle. we're constantly frustrated by being paralyzed towards improving ourselves.

it's very easy to get lost in this paradigm and feel like you're a constant failure

Millennials are soft. They are metrosexual and therefore don't know how to people.

People are searching for something but they aren't looking in the right places. Materialism isn't fulfilling.

Consumerism has been a dead end. You can never accumulate enough stuff or keep up with the trends. Materialism is stressful.

That's in line with some Buddhist teachings. I certainly think too many people waste much of their lives doing unfulfilling stuff for materialism which puts way too much value on possessions. I think it's a hollow existence but i learned the hard way.

Yeah, I think it's some combo of rx addiction, staring at screens all day, not enough physical exercise, crap job market, etc.

My post count doesn't reflect the absurd amount of time I spend on here, to be sure.

It will come, but not until we move past the next crisis.
