We all hate traffic threads, but are any of these projects going to help Baton Rouge?

It is insane that one vehicle on the bridge can totally screw traffic on both sides of the river.

By the time they are finished it will be ready for another project bc it’s taken too long and traffic counts doubled. I remember when 1-12 was widened in the 80s. It’s the circle of life.

I don't think 4 bridges are enough.

Widening 10 is like making the mouth of a funnel larger without increasing the size of the spout... especially when it easily clogs. We need a second interstate bridge in BR or a loop. We also need an alternative route for accessing Hwy. 1. When the main exit has issues, the exit should be closed and commuters should have to take another route.

I had to commute from New Iberia to Hammond for four days recently. I got into a traffic snarl every time.

I wonder instead of “Loop” we refer to the loop as a city roundabout, would LADOTD fall for it and get it accomplished?

The current expansion project is much-needed, but it will never do as much for traffic problems as a good loop would do. Instead, we'll get a bridge at St. Gabe that will offer some marginal utility, but will be too far off I-10 to ever make a loop that enough traffic would use to make a worthwhile impact.

Happens everywhere. Not just in your hometown. Blocking a lane during peak hours leads to traffic congestion. Amazing!

Are the projects going to help traffic? Yeah, I think they will.

Are they going to prevent a wreck or stalled vehicle on the bridge from fricking up traffic in BR? No, probably not. Although I do think the improvements will make a significant difference for folks traveling eastbound over the bridge, into the city.

A huge part of the issue in BR seems from decades upon decades of poor urban planning. We need another bridge, but we’d be a lot better off if the city hadn’t been developed in a way that allows 2-3 miles of interstate next to the bridge to frick up the entire city in the first place.

There are way too many people getting on the interstate only to get right back off 2-3 exits later, because the layout of the city (combined with shitty options on surface streets) basically dictates it.

The HWY 1 issue isn't about blocking a lane. It can be caused by a wreck on this side road miles from the Interstate.

What really gets my goat is the fact that there really was no planning for urban sprawl and eventual population growth in outlying areas. These two factors meeting "in the middle" area wise was very, no extremely foreseeable (?). It's almost as if they thought we would all live within a 20 mile radius of downtown. Am I crazy?

No, because these projects were needed three decades ago.
