My opinion is that there is no reason to wax new vehicles. Advances in paint keep the shine for many years with regular washing. If you disagree please tell me why.

You could not be more wrong.

The best time to correct a car's paint is the first day you get it. Besides rail dust, fall out from the dealership's paint booth, porters washing the car with harsh chemicals and brushes, and morning pressure washings, cars come from the dealer jacked up.

When you buy new, order the car, take delivery with the car being prepped, then drive it to a reputable detailer. Or if you don't plan to take care of the car long term, disregard any of the above because it doesn't matter.

Edit rail not rain

A coat of wax makes it easier to wash off bugs, tar, etc.

Use a polish. Wax cuts into finishes like a compound.don't ever let bugs/ droppings/ sap dry on your finish.
YouTube has some excellent videos on Washing and taking care of your car's finish.

You have it backwards. Wax doesn't have abrasives, polishes do.

Washing your car mars the paint job. Dirt and dust will scratch the finish no matter how careful you are. To keep it looking new, you have to keep it up.

I drive a 17 year old truck. It was used on a farm for most of its life, so it got used hard. Hand wash it a few times a year wih dawn, wax twice. Paint still looks better than plenty of younger vehicles I see out there.

I have to agree...I have only waxed my vehicle a few times over the last ten years or so and it looks damn good. It is all situational, though...I am sure I could make it look better if I put a lot more work and time into it.

Why wax? OT ballers just get a new car when they get dirty.

My 2014 car has never been waxed. It gets washed every 10k miles when the stealership gives it a quick shitty scrubbing as part of the service.

When I was younger I used to wash/wax my vehicles almost weekly. They all looked great, but frick all that work just to make my damn car look good.

You aren't washing your car the right way if you don't have your Zebra tape playing.
