They will send someone out, usually the next day. if they can't fix it they have to call in for approval to replace, could take a few days for that. They will then tell you they ok the replacement but you will have to pay a fortune out of pocket for "code updates". If they have to replace it you do have the option to have them buy you out of it and you can replace it on your own, this is what I suggest.
So if the guy comes out and says it needs replacement just tell them you want them to buy you out and then replace it on your own. They will send you a check in a couple weeks.
I did this last year with my A/C and a water heater.

We've had good luck with a couple of incidents, at least overall.
It just depends on who they contract with. Considering these were shortly after we moved in and we hadn't been on the warranty for long, it was certainly worth it for us. Nobody tried to screw us, but I do think you get the shaft in terms of the contracted company's priority (partly understandable considering non-warranty calls are probably more lucrative). And we haven't had any issues renewing, although I'm not certain how long we'll keep it.

as for me, you'd better turn to specialists. Cause you won't check if it was working or not. Try to use Parker heating and air service https://www.summitheatingco.com/air-conditioning-parker/ . I always use it that's why I'm sure that it'll help you. In my opinion, it'd be the best decision.
