Was SE Louisiana ever a popular stop for music artists

I developed the opinion that no one is making stops in our area ANYMORE, but I've only been in search of local concerts for the last 5 years or so. The Varsity was a big loss. The Texas Club still gets a few acts. There are only a few shows at the Smoothie King Arena. I saw Clapton there a year or so ago, and got tickets for Zach Bryan in May.
Are artists avoiding our area, or were we always a no stop between Houston and the Gulf Coast?

It was actually pretty regular stop for a long time, especially when the PMAC was new. Pretty much every big artist of the 70’s and 80’s played Baton Rouge.

Yeah it was def a major music place in the 70’s and 80’s, especially New Orleans
I know there are lots of venues here, but the older folks talk a lot about a place called the Warehouse that had several artist play early in their careers

New Orleans does still get some shows, depends on what you’re into. There aren’t many huge acts anymore period. Taylor Swift wanted to do a Superdome show this summer but they’re renovating it.

Didn't the old DA or someone in BR screw up all the musicians performing at the river center?
Can't remember exactly who it was or what venue in BR, but I've heard this story somewhere. I want to say it was either in the 70s or 80s.

Maybe, I was always told it was simply because the PMAC was state of the art for its time and was a natural stop before or after Houston, then relationships were formed and the Centroplex got some run as well. Baton Rouge gets a name drop in a lot of songs from that era, from Janis Joplin to Huey Lewis and the News.
Over time more PMAC level arenas got built and BR as a stop was diluted and eventually went away.

ETA - I think my mom worked for him back in the day and that's where I heard the story from. I'll have to ask about it again and how it went down. The way I remember it was it was more about his principles/beliefs than anything else.
But it's been a while, so I may be remembering it wrong.

Saw Garth at the PMAC in the 90s. That’s all I got.

I'm pretty sure it was that and the alcohol and drugs. IIRC, he hated the rock and roll scene and alcohol and drugs.
