It is a little silly to close during one of the biggest money making weekends of the year. And the Essence crowd is pretty tame compared to the Bayou Classic.

There was probably a total of $10 in tips left for a 40 top.

Yeah, I don't believe they had that policy at the time

I have never waited tables so I guess I just can't fathom having to deal with that.
I would get fired quickly after I let em hear my thoughts

Here is pretty much what I posted yesterday on the food board yesterday....
It really comes down to a good business decision for most. I know the racial element comes into play in these discussions and there may be a small element in truth to this, but it really is probably the slowest week of the year for many restaurants. Places need a break every now and then and despite the poor tipper/bad customer aspect, it is the best time to do it.
Walk-Ons just wouldn't have done much business anyway you spin it.
#1 It seem half of the people in Nola head to the beach for the 4th.
#2 People want to grill and be outside over the holiday weekend.
#3 There is a perception among some I know that the parking or traffic will be bad because it's Essence. I wouldn't find this one to be a big deal, but it is a factor with some people.
I have friends who run various small businesses in Nola and the surrounding area that close for the week or at least most of it. It's just a good time to close shop and relax or get out of town.

Geez, these guys do it again with a brilliant move. Getting the land by LSU to open it, expansion, now this genius move. I've never seen anything like it. Helluva a company and business model. I will go and support the Town Center location tonight.

Most would tell you Bayou Classic is far worse. Walk-Ons going to start performing remodels every six months? Better secure that place against vandals.
During the Kentucky Derby Festival they'd have cruising on Broadway (a.k.a. Derby on Broadway) in the West End. When even the black Mom and Pop stores had to shutdown because of vandalism, theft, etc you know it's ridiculous. They finally ended up having to shut it down because of the shootings that were happening during the event.
Want businesses to stay open during your event? Make sure your event participants don't act like a bunch of asses. Otherwise, businesses have every right to protect their assets and if that means closing then so be it.

The owner ended up stepping in and handling it. I never saw him so mad. The real kicker is that after discounting every single one of the items ordered, they wrote a letter to the BBB saying he treated them as second class citizens. He had to write an apology or get downgraded by the BBB.

Auto-grat brah.
Restaurants don't allow you to do that anymore because auto-grats are now considering taxable wages by the federal government. Meaning the restaurant has to pay employment taxes on those gratuities.

Funny that the folks here that would normally come chastise everyone on the OT for being racist are all quiet like "Yeah, they pretty much got us on this one..."
Posted on 6/30/16 at 3:58 pm to GEAUXmedic
So you all are saying that the cries of racism are in fact justified because their justification is that black people don't tip?
If they are in fact closed for that reason it is racist whether they believe their justification is legit or not.

It's silly to close & lose zero dollars rather than be open & lose more than zero dollars?
Business 101 has a seat for you in the front row.
I honestly hope this move becomes a trend. Can fix the problem without slapping the problem in the face.

Jonas profiting from being triggered. It's a great country, for now.
