Waiting in line at the DMV - it's us vs them

Had to physically go to the DMV office to cancel a license plate on a car I sold because the online system says the plate "doesn't exist."
I am getting a true Soviet Russia "us vs them" feeling. The inside of the office is empty as the government workers sit at their desks in the AC. They have us peasants standing in line outside in the sun and heat "because of COVID."
It was all good until the morning clouds just cleared up. Now people are getting restless and pissed.

Tried going to the Express but they said I have to go to the state office because the system denies the plate exists. But I am guaranteed a fine if I cancel the insurance. It's madness.

Don't even attempt to contact the state revenue office. Those mothers act like you're a criminal.
Don't get me started on the double jeopardy laws the state violates with the revenue dept suspending driver's licenses because they don't think you have liability insurance or because you get a ticket where the Trooper puts the wrong car down you sold months ago.

Bureaucrats love every little bit of power and authority they can get. They use it to bully people, not because they have to, but because they CAN. Because the arm of the state has allowed them, unremarkable drones that they are, to wield the power they never had over people.
They are like supervillains whose only powers are mild inconvenience, red tape and time wasting.
I think they have a tiny orgasm when they tell someone who’s been waiting in line 5 hours that they filled out form 611-A (which was given to them by another bureaucrat) when they needed to fill out form 611-B. And now they’ll need to fill it out and wait in a separate line.
Next.

If the plate doesn’t exist, are they going to suddenly find it when you cancel insurance? Just cancel and then submit your bill of sale if they send a notice.

Next time either set an appointment at the DMV or use a public tag agent. Standing in line at the DMV is for people who can't figure out how to avoid standing in line at the DMV.

Went to turn in a plate a month ago and its all by appointment now in Houma. Made an appointment online on the phone and was outtathere in about 20 minutes
