re: VOIP providers for business?

We switched to VOIP at our office a few months ago. We went with Vertical. It was cheaper than Cisco. Nice features. You do need a good internet connection. I work from home and have only DSL available to me and at times of the day, people can't hear me because my upload speed is so poor.

Another reason I went with Talkroute. It's more of a phone management system than a true VOIP in that it is simply forwarding calls from my main number to me and my assistants numbers but as far as the people calling in know it's an office phone system. I don't have to worry about my internet connection at all and can be anywhere and take incoming office calls on my cell or call out from my cell. I set the hours of operation and no one can get through after that hour so it's the convenience of a cell phone and office system. I like it.

ETA: I don't think you would want Talkroute if you have more than 10 or so people working for you. I have 4 people on it now and it works great.

Is that because you want people to know it is you calling (from your phone number) or is it absolutely required? If not required, will it just generate a random (and perhaps different) number every time?

for small businesses (5 extensions or less), something like Ooma office is cheap and effective


For larger businesses I see a lot of Cisco and Polycom IP phones more than anything

So after this thread I spoke with 8x8 and I am going to switch even tough it's 4 times more expensive. Just better for what I need as I grow.
