Visiting Richmond, VA

I have to go to Richmond in a couple of months for a wedding. We're looking to extend the stay a couple of days and making a mini-vacation out of it.
First, where is the best place to fly into? Does Richmond have a decent airport or should I look at DC? Baltimore?
Second, what to do?

Sometimes I feel like Chicken should sue Google for claiming it's the best search engine. Clearly TD.com is...

RIC is just fine to fly into. Flying into IAD or BWI would add a bunch of unnecessary driving to your trip.

I've always liked the Richmond airport. It's small, but at least you don't have to escape from the clusterfrick that is Washington, DC.
Check out the area of Shockoe Bottom. It's a cool little area with a ton of good bars and restaurants.
If you're a history nerd, there's a ton of Civil War stuff around Richmond, including the Museum of the Confederacy.
Also home to one of the best names in minor league baseball: The Flying Squirrels. Although The Diamond is a fairly shitty venue.

Fly into Richmond. The travel from DC or Baltimore will make you want to commit murder.
Richmond is a cool town rich in history just use google and you will find plenty to do in town.
Take a drive down Monument Ave. and look at all the civil war monuments (and Arthur Ashe monument depicting him beating kids with a tennis racket) before the SJW's have them removed.
Colonial Williamsburg is a pretty short drive away and definitely worth seeing.
When I lived there the Shockoe Bottom was a cool place to hang out.
If you can go to The Tobacco Company for dinner.
What do you like to do for fun? That may help me give you more specifics.

Monument Ave and Shoerock Bottom area is pretty cool. It's got a nice college vibe to it.

The "fan" is cool, it's basically between U. of Richmond and downtown on Carey Street, etc. Lots of dive bars and restaurants.

Monument Ave for sure.
Take some time to check out Hollywood Cemetery. Jefferson Davis is buried there along with two presidents and a former Supreme Court justice. There are some amazing looking tombs, vaults and headstones as well. The view overlooking the river is great.
It's been about 5 years since I was last there but there was a very good resturant that served Cuban food downtown. Think it was called Havana.

The first things I thought of when I read the OP.

Absolutely drive down Monument to see the statues. Hopefully the people pushing a petition, to tear them don, don't get their way.
The Confederate White House was pretty cool. I alßo really enjoyed going down to Petersburg battlefield to see the crater.
Stay away from BBQ places, they're all horrible. I also never got the love for the Bottom. I had more fun hanging out in the bars on the Forrest Hill strip.
If its basketball season, VCU has a small arena, with no bad seats. If you have the time, a drive on the Parkway(near Roanoke) is beautiful.
