I've had pets my entire life and NEVER had their teeth cleaned. When did this become so damn important?

It's not, your vet is just trying to increase his revenue.

My dog just recently turned 8 and I had his teeth knocked out and replaced with titanium. Well worth it, imo.

Actually oral health is a big deal for humans and dogs both. Bad bacteria can cause all kinds of more expensive problems. If you are just poor, skip it and deal with bad dog breath and poor health. Or you can go to pet smart and buy dog toothpaste. Good luck.

There is a number of medical problems that any type of animal can get from teeth problems. If you don't want to pay him to do it then go buy the stuff and do it yourself.

Well, poorly maintained teeth and gums can only lead to organ failure. So there's that.

Just call the cops and they'll shoot the dog and that's the end of the problem

Imagine if you had an absessed tooth and a tooth infection but you didn't have the ability to tell anyone, and every time you bit into some food it felt like getting hit with a baseball bat, but that's the price you have to pay to be able to eat.

in two weeks my dog is going back in to get a bridge and a root canal. it's my fault for letting his teeth get so bad. this was my first dog and i didn't know.

I had one and it was the most painful thing I had experienced. I wanted to kill myself it hurt so damn bad. I imagined how that would effect a wild animal and it scared me.

Vets these days have lost their damn minds. I think it's worse in bigger cities. My mom still uses the same vet we had when I was a kid back in MS. His prices are still the same.

I moved to New Orleans with an old dog 8 years ago. She was 13. The poor girl had a tumor growing out of her mouth that was so big she could hardly eat. She became totally incontinent and was constantly wailing. I took her to some "high end" vet on Magazine to talk about putting her down. The vet looked at me like I was the devil and wanted to run over $1000 dollars worth of tests before she was "comfortable" with doing it.

Yeah, your dog should look forward to painful inflammation of the gums, tooth loss, abscesses, and generally a shitty life unable to chew or eat the foods he used to. Can't handle the responsibility, don't own a pet.
