The Mrs. and I are supposed to pick up a new puppy from a breeder this weekend. The litter was comprised of 5 boys and 5 girls. We want a boy so we had 5 to choose from. We were informed by the breeder this morning one of the 5 boys died this morning due to some sort of respiratory illness. I've reviewed the contract and we would be covered if this happened to the puppy we get, but curious if this is something that happens frequently or if it should raise red flags about the breeder. They said it was the weakest dog in the litter, but that he was fine prior to this morning.

Is 10 puppies a normal sized litter? I don't know much about dogs, but that seems awfully high. Seems like with a group of 10 at least one will be in poor health. That's a lot of pups in there fighting for the nutrients to grow!

shite happens. If the breeder has a solid rep and a long history, they're probably legit.

Not sure if it's normal, but it was the size of this particular litter

Unfortunately it does happen. It might have been something minor that went unnoticed at the vet.

When you take your pup home, get him to the vet and tell them what happened and that you just want to make sure he is okay.

Thanks. We spoke with our vet about it and he is very unconcerned. We are taking the dog to the vet two days after we get him.

Immediately after your post Good call

I adopted, but to each their own. I adopted my cat when she was five years old. The lady at the shelter said a lot of older cats get passed up because everyone wants a kitten. Apparently five is old for a cat.

I'm getting the Mrs. one from Lone Star Doodles in Weatherford. Same place?
