No. 3: West Monroe, Louisiana

You may recall hearing about West Monroe some years back, thanks to the popular television show "Duck Dynasty," but there’s so much more to this northern Louisiana community. Among its surprising delights are the Biedenharn Museum & Garden, as well as the impressive Masur Museum of Art (where you’ll find works by Dalí, Cassatt, and Rodin, among others). A number of parks, wetlands, plus a children’s museum also make this an excellent, family-friendly getaway.

It’s not bad at all. I like West Monroe, just don’t like how pretentious some of the people have become. Downtown is very cool, though.

At least they’re trying in ole WM. The Marina will be nice for downtown.

When did the Biedenharn Museum & Garden, Masur Museum, and the children's museum move across the river?

Spend many a day in my childhood at Bayle’s Landing when me and my dad would be on the Ouachita all day. I forget what it is now. That place is holy ground for me.

Nothing better than vacationing at the jewel on the Ouachita.

What? No Madison, MS? HOW?

Actually, when it comes to amenities and cultural events, Madison kind of sucks.

Maysville, KY coming in at #1. Not sure why. Typical river town. Nice enough.

That’s right. I don’t usually venture on that side of the Ouachita. Enoch’s gets plenty of money from me.

13,000 people doesn't really say small southern town to me. A small southern town to me would be something like Folsom,LA, not somewhere with over 10,000 people.
