BDU was in use until 2005 or so.

was being worn into 2007...i retired just as we were required to have one set of ACUs....auditor type that i am, i practiced fiscal prudence and didn't buy any...

Feel bad for the soldiers today. The uniform looks frumpy as shite and they can't even polish their boots. They will never know the satisfaction of walking abound base in a spit-shined pair of tanker boots and highly pressed BDU's.

ACU's are another piece of crap that Schoonover left the Army with...it's another reinvention of the wheel that brings back memories of McNamara...

now, i'll go back further than that...breaking starch on fresh fatigues was better than BDU's...

it's pretty scary when i talk to people now and realize that's it's been over 30 years since fatigues and steel pots were phased out!!!!

I actually enjoyed shining my boots(Corcorans) and pressing my uniform. It's what I did to decompress after work. The ACU is such a terrible uniform. While I'm at it, the 'new' PT's(I know they're like 15 years old) suck compared to the plain grey one before it.
