Universal Studios Orlando/Islands of Adventure Family Vacation

Has anyone been to this theme park lately? I am trying to figure out if we can see it all in one day. We are a family of five, with three Sons, ages 15,13,4. We have been to Disney twice and typically do pretty well in terms of seeing all of the mandatory sights at each Disney park in a day. I have never been to Universal, so am curious as to how it compares to the Disney parks in terms of size, things to do, etc. We plan to do Universal/Islands of Adventure parks in one day unless that is not feasible. Any tips or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Universal is a better park for rides and stuff, on par with pretty much everything Disney has. You'll find its a more laid back theme park and you can easily do the popular stuff in a whole day. We went last summer and after that vacation, the thought of Disney makes me want to puke. We'd go to one of the parks in the morning and head back to the room around 1 pm, chill at the pool, then go back to the parks at night. No buses, just a quick walk from the hotel (Hard Rock). Less lines, less stress and better atmosphere than Disney.
Get the fast pass that Universal offers.....blows Disney out of the water. You literally walk to the front of the line every time on every ride that offers it.

Went in January for the first time. I would have liked to have had more than a day. Don't miss The Mummy. Might be the best ride I've ever been on.

You need at least 2 day IMO one for island of Adventure and One for Universal.

Did you do both Universal parks?

I think you could do Universal/Islands in the same day..depending on the weather. We just got back for my niece's make-a-wish trip and even with her health problems we did quite a bit in single day jaunts. But God was it hot.
The Harry Potter rides are badass. Do not miss, IMO.

I have been with my wifes family multiple times. Always make a multi day trip out of it.
Went with my family who hadnt been in a LONG time and we did both Parks in one day but we were rushed and i had to choose some things to pass on between the 2 parks.
I would without a doubt take at least 2 days for both parks. Dont try to cram it all into one

I would do a day at each. It's probably been 10 years, but I liked Islands of Adventure more. That was pre Harry Potter too.

Universal is awesome. Lots of sluts at the City Walk bars at night. Take your 15 and 13 year old out for that.

Islands of Adventure is a full day
Other side can be done in half but you can draw it out doing the shows and fireworks

If they still do fast passes if you stay at the on site hotels that saves a lot of time.

Me and the gf did it for three days and still missed stuff. You cannot take the whole park in within one day. Unless maybe you pay up for the speed passes.

Me and my wife did it all in one day. Started when they opened in the AM and left at closing.
For a family, I would do each park on Seperate days

We went to Orlando at the end of May and it was our first time going to Universal. We had a blast. If you want to get to everything in a single day you will need to have the park hopper ticket and you will probably need to purchase the Express Pass, especially during the peak season. We got the Express Pass the last day at the park and I promise you it is worth every penny. If you are going at a slower time when less people will be there then the Express Pass may not be necessary.
I personally think two days is the minimum to enjoy everything both parks have to offer but it probably can be accomplished in one. My kids loved the Harry Potter section with all the little magic tricks using the wand, that took a half a day by itself.

I liked the "older" Universal better. I went last year and did not like it.
they've gotten rid of Jaws, Back to the Future, King Kong, and Earthquake rides.
I could care less about viewing 3D visuals in an amusement park.

The Unlimited Express pass will add about $150 to a day's ticket in the summer. So you're about $250 a ticket for that day.
It's the only way you'll hit all the big rides at both parks. And it's not good for Harry Potter rides and a few others. So hit those first.
Stay on site to get extra park hours.

The fam and I went right at a month ago. You can easily do both parks in 2 full days. I recommend you staying onsite so you get the free fastpass (well worth it). Also for some other tips, use
mousesavers . com. That site is full of info. Also, use an American express card for 10% off dining there too. You just have to mention it to the waiter and they will do it. Buy the refillable coke bottle, NOT the one with the chip, but the other one. You can get it for 8.99 with .99 refills for one day, but you can bring it back the next day and get the refills for .99 also. They don't check them. We got our tickets through undercover tourist and hotel rooms through cheaptickets. We saved a good amount of money doing it that way
