that's what I'm thinking.

I can believe it would be here as well.

The area screams Howard Johnson/travelodge site now.

The Travelodge was downtown in the 400 block of Lafayette Street, between Lafayette and the river. It had a restaurant and a bar frequented by serious drinkers. It was demolished about ten years ago for the construction of an office/condo complex overlooking the river.

Good find. I probably watched that from the bar at Bombay Bicycle Club, where I drank with my fake id in HS.

Wow. Forgot about that place. It was a Travel Lodge wasn't it? I remember parking under there for free when going downtown for something.

And next door to the Howard Johnson's on the Interstate side was another larger motel. I can't recall the name of it, but the bar inside was named Beefeaters.

Chris' steakhouse used to be a nightclub called The Cockpit.

Wasn't a nightclub named Rick's attached to the Howard Johnson?

I hear lore of a good bar that used to be in Fairway View apartments on College Dr. Semi-ancient history though.

I went there a good bit. I was a really good dart player back in the day. Fairway & Southdowns were my hangouts.

The stripper pole and the purple haze daiquiris made women fun in that place.

I was fricking crazy back then. I don't remember too much about all my alcohol induced shenanigans.

I think Rick's may have been where the Port Royal bar is today--right next to Waffle House (which could have been semi-attached to HJ a long time ago). I think I went there a few time with friends when I was in grad school (mid-'90s).

I recently visited that Waffle House...it is exactly the same as it was 30 years ago, just more layers of grease added.
