OT, need a little help.
I have 2 trees, not on my property that are touching my house and have done damage to the shingles. I have a company coming to trim them back next week. Do I have any ground to get the otherror property owners to pay or assist with the cost??

Consult your neighborhood guidelines.

Could be wrong and things might be different in other places, but I think it's on you after they cross the property line.

I think you have some legit claim here. I would call your homeowners insurance company and ask them. I'm pretty sure you can legally cut anything from the tree invading your property.
Have you talked to your neighbor about his tree?

In LA, a tree owner's responsibility ends at the property line. The only exception is if the tree is not in good health/properly maintained and you can prove that you notified the tree owner (i.e. Via certified letter). If you've notified them and the tree causes damage to your property then the tree owner is responsible, not you or your insurance.

If your neighbor isn't willing to pitch in, just remember that you are responsible for whatever crosses your property line.
So cut the limbs back and sprinkle some Spike 20P on your side. Those roots extending into your property are yours and you can kill them if you want to.

They have people who allegedly paid a lot of money and studied really hard in school to give you this advice. Unfortunately, they generally charge a fee. What a sad world we live in where information isn't free.

Why did you let the trees get to your shingles and do damage before you are acting upon it?
