those look cool but i haven't ever seen those used or really available at nurseries.

Correct....I bought mine at a Nursery here in GA called "Nearly Native Nursery" Nearly Native delivers 3 gallon

Another place to order but are really small

Of course it is better to see one in person.


A review from a guy in Baton Rouge on a gardening site I frequent states:

good choice in BR. Dogwoods have an incurable disease and don't perform that reliably as far south as BR. As far a shade trees, I love tulip poplars (liriodendron tulipfera) - also called "Yellow Poplar". I have two in my back yard and they have done very well.

Try a Japanese Zelkova. Great shade tree used a bunch for shade landscaping.
