I have a big limb that is half broken.
I'm thinking of getting it cut. Who is resposible for the power lines that come from the pole to the house?

you are. entergy wont touch it.

I had a similar issue...the power line from the pole to the house...there was a tree on my property that crossed it and had entergy come over. They wouldnt cut it. They did drop the line however and I was able to get up there to cut it myself.

Power company unless you're on a farm or something.

It may depend on the policies of the different electric companies. I made a call to inquire last year and they had a guy out in under an hour to trim it back.

When I lived in BR we had some big oak trees that would constantly drop huge limbs and rip the lines out of the house. Entergy said they were responsible for the line up to the weather cap at the top of the pole that juts up from the house.

I don't think they'll cut tree limbs in your yard... they'll just keep coming back and putting up the line if it gets ripped down. They probably did it once or twice a year the entire time I lived there.

Entergy is responsible for the lines and equipment providing power up to your electric meter. After the meter, it's up to you. I learned that after Hurricane Gustav.

Who is responsible for cutting limbs from trees over the power lines in your yard, I don't know. That's a separate issue.

Guess that depends on who comes out. The Entergy guys that came out to my house said their responsibility stopped at the weatherhead. This thing:

During Gustav I had a big limb actually hit the side of the house just enough to take out that cap and they wouldn't touch it.

From Entergy's website (assuming you have Entergy):

quote:

What We Do Not Trim

Services (Secondary) and Security Lighting ("Night Watchers"): We do not prune or remove trees that appear to threaten individual service lines (pole-to-home) or security lighting ("night watchers"). These service lines are the responsibility of the customer. If you have trees that need pruning or removal near your service lines, please hire a professional tree-trimming contractor to perform the work. If requested, we can temporarily disconnect the service to your home, at no charge to you, so the contractor can work safely.

Entergy has actually come onto my property and sprayed herbicide on all vegetation under my power lines to prevent growth up into the power lines, much as you see them trim trees along the road to prevent this. Didn't even ask my permission.

Not true with Entergy. They own from pole to weather head. Just had that line replaced not long ago. Past the weather head it's homeowners problem.

That's why I said to call them, initially.

Everyone is up in here contradicting each other, though.

I don't have one of those on my house.

Maybe that's why Entergy told me they are responsible for the lines up to the electric meter.

Called entergy and put ina request. Let's see if they will send someone and if the guy will be willing to move the wire or cut the tree limb
