Julie Hamp, Toyota's most senior female executive, has resigned following her arrest in Japan on suspicion of drug law violations, the automaker said Wednesday.
Hamp tendered her resignation through her attorneys on Tuesday, and Toyota Motor Corp. accepted it because of "the concerns and inconvenience that recent events have caused our stakeholders," the company said.
Hamp, a 55-year-old American who was Toyota's newly appointed head of public relations, was arrested on June 18 on suspicion of importing oxycodone, a narcotic pain killer, into Japan. The drug is tightly controlled in the country.

Her arrest came as she was moving her things from the U.S., and police came to her Tokyo hotel after finding the drug in a package that was mailed to her. Japanese media said the drugs were hidden in a package containing jewelry.
Although Japanese Toyota officials have been posted abroad, Hamp was the first senior foreign Toyota executive to be fully stationed in Japan.
Foreigners have sometimes been detained in Japan for mailing or bringing in medicines they used at home. Such drugs may be banned in Japan or require special approval.
Before joining Toyota in 2012, Hamp worked for PepsiCo Inc. and General Motors Co.

LOL. I came here expecting her to be a Japanese secretary. Am extremely disappointed.

Does she have a legal prescription?
How much did they seize?
How did they know she had them?
These are kind of important questions.

When I lived in Japan (1990s) they went through all "care packages" sent from the US. Mrs. Pimp sent me a Playboy that had some LSU stuff in it, and they ripped out the vagina pics. They also put a stern warning in the package for me about arrest and deportation. Everybody who lives there knows that. That she would try that tells me she is either a hard core addict or got set up.

I have to say, having someone mail you a package of oxycodone in a foreign country is a pretty damn suspicous act...whether innocent or not, anyone with that degree of bad judgement does not need to be a corporate executive...

I agree, but if she has a legit prescription and a real need for the drug, I would have a different opinion than if she was just an addict.

oxycodone. Ouch. Feel bad for her.
Probably a relief for Toyota.

You might have a different opinion but Japan doesn't. They don't care if you take oxy back home or not. If they haven't approved it, you are going to jail. And they are not likely to approve it.

Japan can suck my dick. In America we can take oxys whenever we want.

Cool.
I'm trying to form my own opinion here so I don't care what Japan has to say.

Says it was found hidden amongst jewelry in a parcel.
Her conscience is guilty, we know that much. Leads to real guilt if you ask me
