Why did they deviate from the Top Gear BBC template?
I think its more personality than anything.

They just don't have the chemistry that the UK show has. Also the shorter format because of our commercials doesn't help at all. I wish they wouldn't try to directly copy the UK's trips/stunts.

Ratings ploy??
I doubt it. It's not like they are hurting for viewers. They get 350 million people watching around the world each week.

Why did they deviate from the Top Gear BBC template? BBC is much, much better.
Like someone already said, they didn't deviate from the template. They're chemistry sucks compared to the BBC crew. The US crew just seems like they are forcing it too much.

Update:

The BBC has today released the following statement: “Following last week’s suspension of Jeremy Clarkson, Ken MacQuarrie is now considering the evidence and will report to the Director-General on his findings next week. Once this has been considered, we will set out any further steps. The BBC will not be offering further commentary until then.” It has been confirmed that the TGTV episode scheduled for broadcast on Sunday 22 March will not be shown, but no official statement has been made regarding any future episodes. TopGear.com will bring you more news as soon as we have it.

Are they still airing new episodes of the US version?
Human Rights Watch has come out against it.
