Last year I bought a brand new GMC Sierra. The first week I had it my friend got married in shreveport and took the truck for the ride. On the way back to BR it poured the whole way. My fat arse decided I want chocolate about 10 minutes from the house (on 190 right before I10). When I pulled back out of the gas station I accidentally had my truck in manual shift and sky rocketed the rpms. Hurried and pulled over to take it out of manual. Sounded like a gun went off. Thought I blew my engine. Nope. An 18 wheeler passing slung a rock through my back glass. Shattered. I had no choice but to try to make it home. Every bump I would hit the hole would get bigger and bigger. I was highly pissed off. My wife was crying I was so mad. Got home and again my dumbass slammed the door. All the glass went into my truck. Put a tarp over it in the pouring rain. It didn't stop raining for two days after.

Moral of the story don't be a fat arse.

That really sucks man. You know what sucks more? As soon as you replace it, it will happen again.

Does a car not work if the windshield is cracked?

Most E-Class Benz and up, 5 Series and up BMW, A6 and up Audi, and most Porsche have windshields that are $1200-$1700, as many have heads up display, windshield wiper sensor holes drilled, embedded antenna (Porsche 911), and special seal kits.

...and they are German, which adds to it.

Sorry bro

ETA: in all seriousness if you are in BR or NO I can find out if there are companies that repair a crack that long. I am not anywhere near there but I do repairs up to 24" I can contact my supplier Monday and find out if they have someone in your area. I would have no idea if they are any good or not though.

You don't have comprehensive coverage on your new car? My deductible is $50.00. That's on you not the universe.

On my family cars I have a $500 deductible because my insurance is over $8000 a year already. Welcome to teenage drivers.
On my sports car I have a collector policy with 0 glass deductible thank goodness.

Find a flatbed or gravel truck throwing rocks all over the roadway, follow for a few miles..

Here in Ark. the proof is on the driver to show the rock came directly from the truck to your windshield. Once it hits the road and then your glass, you're shite out of luck.

Funny how rocks go after new cars. I have an '01 silverado that's never seen a crack.

Just file a police report against a demolition company that operates dump trucks.

Should be all the proof you need to file a claim with no deductible. Insurance company will fight it out with the truck company. Either way it's not your problem anymore.

Besides it probably really was someone like that anyway; those trucks spew rocks all over the place.

rock on the windshield of my brand new car

Over the course of my many adult years, and considering the number of new windshields I've owned, I have learned that the length of time a windshield remains pristine is directly proportional to the amount of worry I assign to potential cracks and dings.

The problem with your truck company lawsuit is that most if not all states consider debris to be a "road hazard" once it hits the ground and bounces. It would have to never touch the ground for it to be considered truck liability.

You don't have a $100 deductible for comprehensive? Seems that would be wise with a $1000 windshield
